During the 10.30 am service the Uganda team shared some of their experiences with the congregation and visitors. (Check out all the links on our Uganda Team page for more photos and full reports.) It was great to hear a little of how the experience had changed their lives and thinking. After the service the team provided a buffet lunch as a thank you to all those who had contributed and prayed. On behalf of the church, Giles thanked Claire and Mark especially for all their hard work in making the trip......

And so our experience at the school has come to an end (for now). Nobody from our group has not been moved by the love of the children that we have met – compared to us, they seem to have so little in the way of possessions; however they are rich in love and happiness. We are returning to our comfortable lives, while we leave these children behind to their 4.00am starts, their cold showers and their porridge and beans. Yet these children are the fortunate ones compared to others in the......

Well, we are packed and just about ready to go! We leave Sunday morning after the church service at school and a quick lunch. We have prepared a couple of beautiful hymns to sing before we go. It has been an incredible trip. The children here are loving and generous of spirit. It has been a pleasure to be among them. In the past week, we have constructed ten hand-washing devices outside toilets in farming homes, made countless wall charts, helped with classes and at the Medical Centre and visited a 19......

Today, after celebrating Josh’s birthday, we had a “late” start (we were woken up just before 9am) to another bread and egg breakfast. Apart from Giles, Josh and John who had headed down to serve the 6:30 am porridge. We then headed out to different classes to spend time with the Primary children. Emilie and Gabriela, went to the Medical Center to help make envelopes for the medicine and tend to a few patients to provide some moral support. We spent most of the morning in these places until around lunch-time when......

I was woken up to the lovely sound of John faintly playing happy birthday on the guitar and then promptly told him to shut up. I left for breakfast planning on having presents later but the gifters thought otherwise. For those who haven’t guessed, its Josh’s birthday today! We had planned out a normal day the evening before, so I assumed everything would stay low key… or so I thought. After some lovely presents from the group of which clothing and a “I (HEART) BABY” bag, it was time to get to......

A cracking day was had by all – it was Josh’s 17th birthday, so the day began with Bible study and then the children showered Josh with gifts, including a rather gaudy shirt, rings, a toddler’s backpack and a vest signed by all, which they made him wear all day! Madeleine, Jordan and I did the 6:30am porridge and again at 10am, including scrubbing the extra sticky porridge pots in cold water with no washing product – no mean feat! We have all become especially attached to a little two-year old boy,......

The day began for most of us when Mark, Gabriela and Emilie came back from serving porridge. Prayer time was led by Benjamin. After breakfast (boiled eggs, bananas and long queue for toast as toasters were at gridlock) we slapped emulsion onto the table we’ve been making in the hope that it would act as an undercoat, but it turned out to be poster paint and utterly useless. Claire discovered she had disposable gloves in the first aid kit and needn’t have resembled a Jumblie with green hands (no blue head though)......

Hello everybody! The days are flying by rapidly and we’re trying to squeeze in as much as possible. We have got into a great routine now. Chris, Jack and Benjamin served the early morning porridge to the boarders at 6:30am. Prayer time was then at 7:45am, although before that, quite a few of the young people went for an early morning run again with Farida, our wonderful Volunteers’ Manager and Richard, the Lodge General Manager. The young people are growing more confident at Bible Study time – we all take turns to......

We started off our ninth day in Uganda nice and early at 7:20am, to then have Bible study together at 7:45. After this, Claire, Charlie and Jordan went off to serve the early morning porridge to the children. The rest of us had a breakfast of omelette and toast. We then set off together towards the local church, St John’s, just a few minutes’ walk down the road. We arrived at 10 o’clock, prepared and ready for the service…to find no one there yet! We proceeded to wait an hour for the......
