last part of our sermon series in Nehemiah, from chapter 13. We were witnesses last week a day of great joy and celebration at the dedication of the completed wall of Jerusalem. A real high-point in the book, there seemed to be a genuine sense of commitment to God by the gathered assembly. But human nature being what it is, it didn’t last long. A few years later, Nehemiah returned to Babylon, and in no time at all the people had returned to their sinful ways, their spiritual drift saw them ignoring God’s laws, pleasing themselves rather than God. What would Nehemiah do? Well again, he steps in to get things back on track, putting in measures to protect the Sabbath and outlaw their marriages with people from other nations.
